Win Blue Boutique’s Giveaway: Why You Should Read Romance This Summer
It’s hot outside. You can make it just as hot inside your bedroom with the help of a spicy summer read. If you’ve never read romance or if it’s been ages since you picked up a Mills & Boon, this is the best time to pick up a FREE copy from Blue Boutique.
4 Reasons Why You Should Read Romance
The total sales value of romance books reached a whopping $1.08 billion last year, according to the Romance Writers of America. The majority of readers (84 percent) are women. There are plenty of reasons for the enduring popularity of the genre. Here are the top four reasons why you should join the romance wagon this summer.
#1 Romance novels are fun. Survey results published in Maya Rodale’s book, Dangerous Books for Girls: The Bad Reputation of Romance Novels, show that 88 percent of survey participants read the genre for entertainment. Others said they read it for relaxation (82 percent) and escape (also 82 percent). It’s hard to argue against anything entertaining, relaxing, and fun!
#2 Romance novels are empowering to women. In the abovementioned survey, 61 percent said they were empowered by romance novels. It’s true, a woman’s thoughts, feelings, and needs are front and center in romance, which is not always the case in other types of novels.
#3 Romance novels promote feminist values. Bodice-rippers that glorify brutes masquerading as romantic heroes are passé. Today romantic heroines are strong, career-oriented, and in-charge of their lives. Participants in Rodale’s survey agree, with 60 percent saying they consider themselves feminists and 62 percent said romance novels promote feminist values.
