A fourchette piercing is a female genital piercing. It is a piercing done at the rear rim of the vulva, in the area of frenulum labiorum pudendi. Many women do not have a pinchable flap of skin in the area, and are not suited for this piercing. If the correct anatomy is present, placement and piercing tends to be relatively easy. The fourchette piercing is most similar in location to the male guiche piercing. It requires a pinchable flap of skin. Piercers should not pierce into the vaginal tissue or vaginal canal as the vaginal tissue often rejects the piercing.
Many piercers are not willing to do this piercing. The fourchette is a rare piercing which requires the proper anatomy. Many women do not have the pinchable flap of skin, making the fourchette impossible.
The most common jewelry use for a fourchette piercing is a curved barbell. However you can also use a circular barbell as well as a captive bead ring. However I do not recommend the rings do to its easier to get caught onto underwear or other objects. All jewelry inserted in a healing piercing should be made out of either 316-LVM ASTM f-138 implant grade Surgical Stainless Steel or ASTM F-136 6AI-4V ELI Titanium.
Jewelry should be “internally threaded”. This means the end ball threads into the post. Never be pierced with “externally threaded” jewelry. This type of jewelry is cheap. Jewelry not made of surgical stainless steel and can cause micro tears in the tissue that can harbor bacteria that may lead to a infection.
As far as the history of the fourchette piercing I couldn’t find much info other than Elayne Angel (author of The Piercing Bible). She takes credit for pioneering the fourchette piercings, as she got the first three of them, on different occasions, she research as well as tried to figure out the best spot. It turned out to be best on a woman who has tissue there, which she unfortunately did not. As Elayne Angle says it was fun trying, and the women who are built for a fourchette piercing gave great reviews.
Healing time is relatively quick, as with all piercings in the genital area. Healing time is usually around 2 to 3 months. Hygiene is usually a concern; with the piercing’s proximity to the anus.
A piercing heals in stages so diligence is required to during the first few stages.
To take care of your piercing you can do saline soaks or even a saline spray a couple times a day
There is one drawback to having a fourchette piercing, since you basically sit on this piercing, you must be carefull not to seat yourself on a unclean surface during the healing time, unless you are wearing clean underwear or clothing. Maintain excellent hygiene due to the proximity of the piercing to the anus: shower regularly, and be careful when wiping after visiting the toilet.
Many people have reported that this piercing is prone to stretching on its own. Discomfort with intercourse has been reported by some people, where as some may find it quite pleasurable. Unfortunately, migration and rejection of this piercing are fairly common.
