Today I want to talk about the differences in fashion corsets, cinching corsets,  and bustiers. Many people are under the assumption that you can cinch any type/brand of corset just because it has strings. This is not the case. Many corsets these days are made to be worn for the look, not to keep a cinch. These corsets are great for one time use, parties, costumes, etc. They are made out of thinner material, typically have plastic boning, and are sized by bust. Plastic boning tends to bend to the shape of the wearer, not keep it’s structure. This works if cinching is not your main goal. We carry lines by Leg Avenue, and Coquette that are made for these purposes.

If you are really wanting a good cinch, a true reduction in waist, then you need to try the Burleska line of corsets. These are imported from England and are a top seller at the Sugarhouse store; sometimes it seems we can’t keep them in stock!  The corsets and waist cinchers made by Burleska are amazing! Most are metal or steel boned, so they will make you form to them. This gives you the ideal hourglass figure and also helps with posture; just try to slouch in these!  And with wedding season coming up, they can really help acheive the perfect look. These corsets work for almost any body type/bust size and enhance the lady business while carving out a waist. When shopping for Burleska corsets, waist size is important. This line is sized by your corseted waist, which means you take the actual measurement of your waist and subract 4 inches. This is your corset size. This can vary depending on style, so we like to start with what size we think will work, and go from there. Bustiers are ideal for those who want more of a lingerie look. They will have formed cups which are perfect for women with a smaller bust; this gives them room to be boosted! Typically, bustiers do not have cinching strings, but they do have boning which will still give you a slight cinch. Most women can wear these under clothes and can be attached to nylons. You could have fun teasing your fella with the allure of what’s to come later!

-Look in her naughty drawer. This may give you a good indication of what type of lingerie your lady likes. Check the tags on her bra and undies to give you a good estimate on size. 36 C? Small, Medium, or Large? Take notice if there is a prominent color, or if it’s an array.

-Ask questions when you’re shopping, or see advertisements. Honey, do you like this? Would you wear something like that? Would you feel comfortable in something stringy? ; )

-Find out what part of her body she thinks is rockin! Ladies will always want to accentuate what our favorite part is. Does she have a nice bum? Nice legs? Midsection? If she loves her tummy, a 2 pc option would be ideal! Nice legs? Put her in a garter belt with stockings and a great pump. On the flip side, if she is self conscience about any part of her body, find that out too. She won’t feel sexy in something she doesn’t feel mentally comfortable in.

If you’ve ever been into a lingerie store, you know that there are a myriad of shapes, sizes and styles to choose from. With such a vast array of options, it can be a daunting task to pick out that perfect outfit for you or your lover. And if you’ve never been into a store like ours, the very idea of it can be overwhelming. Luckily for you, we are here to help! We’ll provide you with all the information you need in order to get the ideal item that fulfills all your desires. Most people have no idea what some of the different items are called and that can make it difficult for us to help you, so let’s start at the beginning with a little definition of the most common lingerie.

Corset: An item that covers the entire torso, from breasts to hips. It laces up the back (generally), and can be cinched tightly in order to accentuate the waistline and boost cleavage. Corsets can be worn alone, under clothing or even as outerwear. These are great for the lady (or man) with a little extra in the wrong places that they would like to push into the right ones. Can also be used to train (shape) the waist if used consistently for extended periods of time.

Bustier/Merrywidow: Similar to a corset, but not as substantial, these generally have a hook and eye closure instead of lacing up. They often have an underwire cup in them and come with attached garters. If you are wanting the look of a corset without all the time-consuming lacing, these are a great choice.

Waist Cincher/Underbust Corset: Same as a corset, but sits under the bustline. These are great to pair with a bra and pair of panties set for a truly unique outfit that gives you all the right curves.

Chemise: A “dress-like” item that fits close to the body and shows off your curves. Can vary in length, from just under the bum to the floor, but most fall mid-thigh. They come in a wide variety of styles and colors, so it’s one of the easiest items to find something to suit just about everyone.

Babydoll: Similar to a chemise, these generally hug the breasts and then flow away from the body. Great for people who want to disguise their midsection a bit (think pregnant or already had a few kids), or those who don’t like things too form fitting.

Camisol: A sleeveless shirt-like style that is usually soft and silky and is often paired with panties or another type of bottom. These are perfect for ladies that like to be comfortable and sexy at the same time.

Teddy: Think one-piece swimming suit. These come in a large variety of styles; from high cut on the hip to a more of a romper style that covers most of the butt. This style has been around a long time, so sometimes it is thought of as an older style, but with the updated variety of cuts and colors these days, it’s a great choice for anyone that wants to elongate and show off those awesome legs!

Garter Belts/Straps: Some of the above lingerie comes with garter straps attached. Otherwise, you can purchase a garter belt by itself and pair it with anything you like. Garters have small clips on the end that allow them to be worn with almost all thigh high stockings. There are generally just two sizes O/S (one size fits most) and Queen (plus) size, as they are quite adjustable. The garter look is classic and great for accentuating a gorgeous pair of gams.

Stockings/Bodystockings: Stockings come in either a thigh high, to the waist, or full body option. They have a wide variety of colors and styles, including, fishnet, sheer, backseam, cuban heel and brocade. This large variety makes it easy to match up with any lingerie or even with your everyday outfits. Bodystockings can be worn underneath clothing to help smooth everything out or by themselves for some fun in the bedroom.

These are the basics, but there are lots of other options out there to appease every desire including vinyl, leather, pasties, crotchless panties and many more. If you keep in mind the person you’re buying for; accentuate the best features and pick something that excites you, you’re bound to make a good choice. Step out of the usual and try something different if you, or they, are up for a bit of adventure, but remember that the more comfortable someone is in something, the sexier they feel.
