Sex Superfoods: Eat your way into a better love life

Cajun Oysters Oysters. Chocolate. Figs. Wine. Delicious, yes, and according to many people these are also natural aphrodisiacs that can get you from table to bedroom in no time. Is there any truth to this? Will these foods actually give you that special feeling or is just another way for your date to try and be suggestive when ordering up that appetizer or dessert? Well, for all your skeptics out there, I’m here to let you know that there is something to these foods, and several others, that can actually have a positive effect on your sexual experience and satisfaction.

Here is a list of some sex superfoods to incorporate into you and your lover’s diets to give you that extra boost!

Celery: Your mom always told you to eat your vegetables, right? Well guys, when it comes to celery you should definitely take her advice. It contains androsterone, an odorless hormone that will have your lady swooning. It also helps out the taste of your sperm, so maybe she’ll be more willing to head downtown!

Oysters: This one is true folks. Oysters actually contain high levels of zinc, which increases libido, as well as testosterone and sperm production. Eating liver has the same benefits, but personally I’ll take my vitamins on the half shell.

Bananas: They contain the bromeliad enzyme, which is believed to increase libido in men. These phallic-shaped fruit, along with avocados, are also chalk full of B vitamins and potassium, which increase overall energy and libido in both sexes.

Eggs: Chicken, quail, fish, it doesn’t matter what kind, but if it’s an egg, it has definite sexual benefits. Large amounts of B5 and B6 vitamins relieve stress and balance hormone levels, both of which are crucial to good sex. So treat yourself to caviar, sushi or just a killer omelette!

Figs: Not only does this fruit bear some resemblance to a certain part of the female anatomy, but they can actually increase stamina and libido, due to their high levels of amino acids.

Garlic: Yes, this superfood can definitely put a damper on the sexy times if you consume it directly beforehand, but including garlic in your diet is a sexual must. It contains allicin, which increases the blood flow to your sexual organs. Just make sure to use it in a meal where you don’t plan to get too intimate afterward, or take garlic capsules instead.

Nuts: We’re talking about the kind you eat, not the kind…well, you know. All nuts are naturally high in Omega-3 fatty acids (the good kind of fat) that can benefit the healthy production of hormones and increase your sex drive.

Wine: Yes, we know this luscious liquor can relax you in no time and lower those inhibitions, but that’s not all it can do! It also contains antioxidants, like resveratrol, that boost blood flow and increase circulation, an important factor in both arousal and sexual satisfaction.

And last but not least…Chocolate! Not only does chocolate make us happy to eat, it contains chemicals that are proven to alter your mood and energy. Theobromine, a caffeine-like chemical, gives you extra energy to go at it all night long. It also contains phenylethylamine and serotonin which are chemicals that naturally occur in our bodies and, when released, provide a euphoric, “in love,” kind of feeling. Studies show that women who consume a small amount of chocolate everyday actually report having a more satisfying sex life. So, eat up, drink up and don’t skip that dessert that keeps calling your name!
