Well, now that a few weeks have passed and everyone has pretty much thrown those silly resolutions to the curb, why don’t you try something that will actually improve your life…like better sex! The Pretzel

Have him kneel and straddle your left leg while you’re lying on your left side. Bend your right leg around the right side of his waist—allowing him full access to your vagina. I’d like to think that we all know we need to clean our sex toys and store them properly in between uses, but I do understand that how to do those things may not be as common information. Here at Blue Boutique, we do try to inform our customers about proper cleaning products and procedures when they purchase a toy, but for those of you that are still a little unsure about it, I am here to give you all the information you’ll need to keep your toys in great condition for a long time.

First, you need to thoroughly clean your new toy before it’s ever used.. Yes, we do put on those lovely plastic gloves anytime we pull it out of the packaging, but it’s hard to know exactly what may have gotten on there during the manufacturing and packaging process. If you clean it as soon as you take it out of the package, you’ll have the satisfaction of knowing that it’s good to go whenever you are!. You can use condoms with your toys, which I would encourage if you are using it with more than one partner, but it also makes for easy clean up.

While you don’t have to purchase [sex] toy cleaner, I definitely recommend it. You could technically just use an antibacterial soap and water to clean your toy, but the chemicals in many soaps can be irritating to you and damaging to your toy if not properly rinsed off. This is especially true with jelly or rubber type toys because they are extremely porous and can absorb bacteria and other things in the material of the toy. If your toy is not waterproof, you also have the added issue of possibly getting the battery compartment wet and ruining it. With our cleaners, you can simply spray or wipe the product on the toy and wipe it off with a damp cloth. There are several basic anti-bacterial sprays, foams and wipes on the market that will clean your toy without damaging it, but there are also some superior products with added benefits. These would include products like PJUR Med Clean and Swiss Navy Toy and Body Cleaner. Both of these are actually anti-fungal and anti-viral, along with being anti-bacterial. They can also both be used directly on your body, even if you have sensitive skin. If you have purchased a higher quality, non-porous material, like silicone, I would definitely suggest one of these products because they are gentle and will keep your toys in like-new shape for years to come.

For non-battery operated toys you have several more options for cleaning, depending on the material your toy is made out of. If you have a basic jelly, rubber or hard plastic toy, you will still want to clean it the way I described above. For Cyberskin, or real-feel toys, you’ll do the same, but make sure these are rinsed extremely well, as this is the most porous material available. If you have purchased a toy made out of silicone on the other hand, you can also sanitize them by boiling them in water for several minutes. Any sort of Pyrex or glass toys can be boiled as well…or even put through the dishwasher!

Once you have cleaned and rinsed your toy you need to make sure it air dries COMPLETELY before storing it. With Cyberskin, you’ll want to make sure and powder it after it is dry with a product called Cyberskin Renew, or you can use cornstarch in a pinch. When your toy is fully dried, you should store it in a dark and temperature controlled place. Some of these materials, like Cyberskin, are very sensitive heat and light and can melt. Make sure toys are separated by some sort of cloth or bag and aren’t touching. Most of these materials will react with one another and if left in contact for a long time are prone to stick together and get ruined. I suggest taking out the batteries while storing them as well.
